On Saturday there are twenty people in the tasting room, the Wi-Fi in the vaulted cellar is weak, and a customer wants to pay with TWINT. A winery till has to work in exactly that moment — and close cleanly in the evening, so the stock in the cellar and the figures in the books still match. This guide covers what matters and how the Vinosoft till handles each point.
What a till in a wine business has to do
- Keep selling when the network drops. Cellars, vineyards and market squares rarely have good internet.
- Take cards and TWINT. Many customers no longer carry cash.
- Share one stock with the shop and the office. Otherwise the webshop sells on Sunday the case that left the farm shop on Saturday.
- Close the day cleanly. Count the cash, see differences, compare card takings with the terminal's settlement.
- Produce receipts that work for VAT. With the rate and amount per VAT rate.
Selling without internet
The Vinosoft till is an iPad app (iOS 17 or later). It keeps a copy of your articles, prices and tax rates on the device. If the connection drops, you keep taking cash: every sale is saved on the iPad first and sent to Vinosoft as soon as the network is back. A sale that could not be sent stays on the device and is sent again at the next sync — nothing is lost.
Some things do need a connection, because the server checks them:
- Redeeming coupons and loyalty points
- Refunds, because the original sale must already have reached Vinosoft
- Opening and closing a shift. If the till is in Manual shift mode, open the shift before you drive to the market.
- Card payments depend on the terminal's own connection
Sync the receipts as soon as you are back online, and only then close the shift. Otherwise the closing is missing the sales still sitting on the iPad.
Card terminal and TWINT
There are three options:
Terminal | Connection | Amount |
|---|---|---|
SumUp Solo | built into the app | sent to the terminal |
Worldline / SIX (e.g. Link2500) | over the local Wi-Fi | sent to the terminal, terminal slips are archived |
any other terminal | "External terminal" | typed in by hand and confirmed at the till |
You take TWINT on the Worldline terminal, which shows the QR code itself, or with the TWINT QR payment method: the cashier checks the payment on the customer's phone and confirms it. Cash is taken with change calculation and the configured rounding, for example to 5 centimes.
Each sale takes one payment. Splitting between cash and card, tips through the terminal and buying on account are not available at the till. For a business customer who buys on account, record the sale in the office as an invoice.
Receipts and printers
Receipts print on the Star Micronics mPOP — receipt printer, cash drawer and hand scanner in one device, over Bluetooth — or on a network receipt printer with 58 or 80 mm paper. The receipt carries your logo, the header and footer from Vinosoft, a running receipt number per till, each line with discount and VAT rate, and the breakdown per tax rate. Card payments add the transaction number and the masked card number.
Put your VAT number into the header text; it is not printed automatically. The till does not send receipts by email today.
Closing the day
You decide per device how strictly the till runs the day:
- Automatic: Vinosoft opens and closes shifts itself. Handy for a farm shop that several people look after on the side.
- Manual: the cashier counts the opening float in the morning and closes in the evening. Without an open shift, selling is locked.
- Disabled: no shifts, for example for a till that only comes out at events.
During the day you print an X report as an interim reading, as often as you like. In the evening you count the cash, and the Z report sets opening float plus cash sales against the counted amount, shows the difference, the takings by payment method and by VAT rate, and the number of refunds. If nobody counted, the report shows the till as "not counted", not as a difference of zero. With a Worldline terminal you first close the day on the terminal, and the Z report compares its settlement with the till's card sales.
Z numbers run on without gaps per till. In the office, the day journal lists every sale and refund with the receipt number, the cashier and the invoice created from it.
Stock and accounting
Every sale books the stock out of the till's storage location and becomes, in the background, an invoice with revenue and VAT postings; refunds become credit notes and book the stock back in. If you run several tills — farm shop, tasting room, market stall — each gets its own storage location, and the statistics show turnover per device.
Bottles you open for tastings do not go through the till: it only knows sales and refunds. Book the tasting bottles out in the office as a stock movement, so the stock stays right.
What you need
- An iPad with iOS 17 or later, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
- The mPOP till or a network receipt printer
- A SumUp or Worldline card terminal, or any other one in "External terminal" mode
- The POS app add-on; it is billed per account, not per iPad. Prices are on the pricing page.
There is no Android version, and no table management, scales or gift cards. More about the app itself: The Vinosoft till. How the till works together with a wine club and a loyalty programme is covered in the overview Direct sales at the winery.
As of October 2026, checked against the current version of the Vinosoft POS app.
